Here’s a weird question…
How do you make something like health care… which requires an actual person to provide the care… a right. What if all the doctors decided today not to be doctors anymore? You can’t force people to be doctors. If every doctor in the country determined that this was a raw deal for them and they all moved to Fiji, this would be an unenforceable law, would it not?
Sorry to introduce logic to this discussion.
Carry on.
One of the things I most resent about this whole health care debacle is how the concept of rights has been bastardized.
Can people not see the negatives or do they not care because they don’t see how it is their problem yet?
agreed…i mean i support most of the reform…but you’re right..healthcare is actually a luxury…
one i think should be extended to as many people as possible
but not a right
How is health care any different from schools? or the roads? or rednecks forbid the military?
I find schools the most appropriate example. Education is a right, but you can pay for a better education.
Teachers are people. no one can force teachers to teach yet we pay taxes so that they may eat. You all do realize that if health care was socialized part of the corporate corruption of this country would be nullified? And maybe if we didn’t give so much of a shit about the things we (the US) want in other countries then maybe we could start putting our tax money towards things like education and health care instead of the fucking military then you the citizen wouldn’t have a tax hike. What if we as a people decided to make choices based on the citizens well being instead of the profit that can be gained by either the government or corporations.

re: “rights are not granted by government”: Government is the only entity that can grant a right to vote. For evidence refer to the past 250 years of American suffrage. Happy to think of several more examples to show how your argument is ridiculous.

I think they truly believe it’s a right. It comes with the lack of personal responsibility and accountability for one’s place in society.
