My bicycle future predictions
-thru axles will take over bmx race (this has already started), trials, xc (they already kinda have), road, time trials, and cross (we will soon have 15mm qr disc cross forks). Through material and engineering solutions this will be a lighter alternative to quick release, not to mention stiffer and more reliable.
-Electronically shifted gearbox TT bike with dual front 140mm hydro disc (Carbon ceramic discs) and a hydro disc built into the gearbox set up. Rear wheel would be fixed (belt drive).
-full 1.5” steer tubes.
-Increase of bar stem combo uses, particularly in mtb riding.
-Composite materials have a long way to go, Eventually we will realize that carbon alone is not the answer. This is already happening with kevlar down tube guards, BMC’s lugged carbon design (aesthetically kick ass to me, but only because of its brutish simplicity) and much more, but they are all baby stems. 3D weaving needs to evolve, metal alloys need to start becoming incorporated, and resin development needs to be explored (in molded/ co molded designs will increase)

Stewart de Gavin, I agree with the through axle thingie. it will increase safety and reliability of everything, not to mention stiffness for only a slight increase in weight. Fucking Bolt Thrower. Got a 29er, too scared to ride it fast. I may have too much fun. Crashing multiple times, wounded knees twice and sprained elbow and angle. Riding in East Berlin quarries is fucking insane, mandatory bridge airs and some pretty funky trials for XC bikes. love Perry
by AnonymousPERRY! EAST BERLIN? as in not usa? I have been up to quite alot of ridiculous xc bike creations. Ridin rocks here and there. Recently obsessed with the idea of using trials rims on my rigid ss for a semi-fat tire dealio. We have to catch up and imagine the future of cycling very soon! what 29er did you end up with?
